Think You Can't Beat Eating Disorders?


There Eating disorders is one of the most misunderstood disorders that plaque's millions of people throughout the world every year. This disease is sometimes called the silent killer as many times it can go undetected for many years before even family and friends realize something is wrong. There are many different eating disorders but we will concentrate on the more popular ones and some tips to help you beat them.

First let's define exactly what an eating disorder is. It's a complex compulsion to eat or not to eat that can affect your physical and mental health in an adverse way. The three most common eating disorders are Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia nervosa. These two are the most common, but another one that you also need to be aware of is Binge eating disorder which is also growing very rapidly. All three of these eating disorders can affect your health adversely and also lead to death.

Anorexia nervosa is the presence of abnormal low body weight which usually means 15 percent below your normal body weight for your age and height. This of course varies with every individual. The fear of gaining weight and becoming fat will consume the person to the point that they will stop eating or eat less to a point of starvation. Many people with this eating disorder are perfectionists and are driven to succeed. Most of the time they set unattainable goals and once them fail to make their expectations they want something they can control and that usually is their weight. More than 1,000 women a year die of anorexia nervosa.

Bulimia nervosa is almost on the opposite end of eating disorders which is eating a vast quantity of food in a very short time. This is usually followed by induced vomiting to lose what they have just consumed. Many people who have this type of eating disorder get a high out of this eating binge. People binge eat for many reasons such as failure at life, or just being depressed. This type of disease can have some adverse effects on your body and should be avoided at all costs.

Binge eating is the last common eating disorder where people just eat until they feel sick. This comes from a bad event or just not happy with how things are going. Many times it seems binge eating is done in private places when no one is around. Trying to determine if someone is, a binge eater can be very hard sometimes. All these eating disorders are very dangerous and some can even lead to death. All is not lost as there are tips to help you with eating disorders.

One of the first things you need to do is admit you have a problem. Until then it's especially hard to get better. Surround yourself with people who love you and will help you. The positive feedback you get from them will give you strength to beat your eating disorder. Get as much medical advice and help as possible. Join eating disorder groups as they will have the same people going through what you are. The key to beating it is taking one day at a time. Don't think there is a fast fix because there isn't. It took you time to get this way. It will take time to get better. With love support and a dedication you can beat any eating disorder you may have.
